Situated on the banks of the Irwin River in Dongara, Russ Cottage provides an opportunity to appreciate the unique lifestyles of the early settlers in the 1860s. Furnished in the style of the early farming families, the cottage has been beautifully restored. Stroll around the beautifully manicured gardens or if time permits, take a guided tour of the cottage.
The cottage forms part of the Dongara Heritage Trail, which incorporates a number of buildings of historic importance.
Collect a copy of the trail map from the Old Police Station which has been converted into the town's tourist centre. The trail also includes a visit to the Priory Lodge and the Royal Steam Flour Mill.
Russ Cottage is a fascinating museum which is open on Sundays and public holidays between 10am and 2pm. Dongara is a four hour drive north of Perth. If you visit in spring you will be treated to a spectacular sight as the region blooms with a variety of wildflowers including Everlastings.
