The Duyfken will sail for 70 days, departing from its home in Fremantle and available as a travelling museum to visit when in port regionally. The ship will also deliver a comprehensive community engagement and education program. On Monday 24 October 2016 the Duyfken will sail from Denham to Dirk Hartog Island where she will take up location at Cape Inscription for participation in the commemorative function on Tuesday 25 October 2016.

The Accidental Encounters exhibition encompasses the stories of the first recorded European (Dutch) landings in Shark Bay, Western Australia, and the four 17th and 18th century Dutch VOC shipwrecks off the Western Australian coast.

A unique cultural festival, the Dirk Hartog Voyage of Discovery: Shark Bay 1616 will include a five day program of arts, music, food and historical events. Mostly free to attend, this event series celebrates 400 years since Australia was landed on by Europeans.
