Carnarvon Heritage Precinct
One Mile Jetty
Located 4kms west of Carnarvon
Walk or take the "Coffee Pot" train along the historical One Mile Jetty built in 1897. View the Gascoyne Rivermouth, mangrove and marine life, migrating birds and jetty activity. Mangrove and Rivermouth walk trails soon to be completed. Sunset is particularly attractive. The jetty is renowned for its great fishing.
Tramway & Town Walk Trail
This walktrail is 3kms long and goes from the Tramway Bridge, Olivia Terrace in the town centre, along the railway line to the Precinct and the One Mile Jetty. This enjoyable walk allows close observation of the flora and fauna of the region with the help of interpretive signage.
The Tramway Bridge across the south arm of the Gascoyne River was constructed during the 1900's to transport good between the port of Carnarvon and the town centre. The last of the steam trains to operate in the north of the State, the "Kimberley" has been saved and restored at the Carnarvon Heritage Precinct and is open for inspection.
During the main tourist season there is a rail link along the tramway from the town centre to the Heritage Precinct, providing a scenic 20 minute trip each way.
Precinct Museums
Step back in time to the early 1900's. Take a walk down memory lane through the Lighthouse Keepers Cottage Museum. Restored to the times of our pioneers who looked after the Lighthouse. Visit the Railway Museum home of the fully restored Kimberley Steam train that operated from the Jetty to town on the 1950's or enjoy a coffee or ice cream at the Guards van kiosk open daily from 9am to 5pm April-September.
