Fisherman's Lookout at Port Denison features sweeping views of the ocean. Stand on its boardwalk and watch the waves rolling in over the reef in one direction or look over the hustle and bustle of the fishing boat harbour. The lookout also boasts an obelisk in memory of sailors lost at sea.
Dongara-Denison is known for its fresh lobster, however the pristine waters are also home to a range of other marine delicacies. Amateur fisherman can drop a line for favourites such as tailor, silver bream, whiting and mulloway. The marina's three jetties offer great fishing - especially for the kids.
The Port Denison Marina is the home of the rock lobster fishing fleet. Enjoy the buzz of activity that characterises the marina by lazing back on the grassed foreshore, which comes complete with barbeques, shaded seating areas and playground.
Held on a Sunday early in November is the very spectacular and colourful Blessing of the Fleet. Up to 40 boats take part in the festivals. On shore, the local Lions Club has stalls and entertainment all day.
The 18-hole Dongara golf course is located on prime real estate with scenic views from almost every hole.
The Priory Lodge, a glorious historical establishment is sprawled a stone's throw from the Irwin River. Constructed in 1881 as a single story limestone building, it first served as the Dongara Hotel before being run for 70 years by the Dominican Sisters as a school and boarding college. Now restored and its historic inn licence reinstated under the name Priory Lodge, visitors can enjoy accommodation, bar and restaurant facilities.
The best way of viewing Dongara's charming historical buildings is on the heritage walk. Purchase a booklet from the Visitor Centre and begin your journey back in time. Highlights include the Royal Steam Roller Flour Mill built in 1894. The Headmaster's residence built in 1888 and Russ Cottage. Built in the late 1860's, Russ Cottage was restored by the Historical Society and is open from 10am-12pm on Sundays.
The Walk Dongara Denison map details 11 different treks traversing the twin towns' most scenic locations. Stroll the banks of the Irwin River, enjoy incredible ocean views or step back in time on the historic walk.
During spring, Dongara-Denison is an ideal base from which to drive to the magnificent wildflower country surrounding the twin towns. Be sure to visit the Burma Road Nature Reserve near Mingenew.
For the buzz and excitement of a bustling street market, stop in at the Dongara Markets, held on the first Saturday of every month from 10am to 3pm.
For wine and olive lovers, try local produce at the Silverdale Olive Orchard and Irwin Winery.
