The dolphins of Monkey Mia are famous for their almost daily ritual of swimming to shore to interact with humans. As the bottlenose are wild, numbers and the exact time of their visit varies, however the dolphins usually visit the shore up to three times a day and more frequently in the mornings. Seven dolphins regularly visit the beach with up to 20 other dolphins visiting occasionally and may be sighted only three or four times a year.

The Monkey Mia dolphins are very well looked after, as they are protected by the Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC). Visitors may get the opportunity to feed the dolphins under the supervision of a national park ranger though this privilage is not guaranteed.  Visitors can also learn more about the Monkey Mia Dolphins at The Dolphin Information Centre. Souvenirs and postcards are also on sale here, proceeds of which support the Monkey Mia appeal trust.

Monkey Mia also has many other attractions including beach camel trekks and catamaran wildlife sailing cruises and indigenous tours, which can be booked at the Monkey Mia Visitor Centre.

Access to Monkey Mia Reserve is subject to a DEC National Park fee.

Monkey Mia Dolphin Resort is the only accommodation in Monkey Mia and a range of local tours can be booked from the resort.

Alternative accommodation outside of Monkey Mia and tours are also available.  Information requests and bookings can be made by contacting the Shark Bay World Heritage Discovery and Visitor Centre on +61 8 9948 1590 or visiting their website
