Perth to Dongara
(354km – 4hrs)
Travel north along the Indian Ocean Drive (continues north from Wanneroo Road), through the coastal towns of Cervantes, Dongara, Port Denison and Greenough.

Dongara to Greater Geraldton
(65km – 45 minutes)

Wake up early and drive to Geraldton.

Geraldton to Carnarvon
(Approx 480km – 5 hours)

Continue north to Carnarvon, a popular holiday spot for sun seekers.
Top tips:

  • Explore, sample and buy fresh produce along the ‘Fruit Loop’
  • Enjoy an evening stroll along The Fascine, taking in the magnificent sunset views
  • Head out for a fresh seafood meal at the local pub

Overnight: Carnarvon

Carnarvon to Exmouth
(Approx 365km – 3.5hrs)

Travel north to Exmouth where the nearby pristine Ningaloo Reef is located just metres from the shore in some places.
Top tips:

  • Join a glass bottom boat tour to see the amazing coral gardens beneath the water
  • Watch an unforgettable sunset from Vlaming Head Lighthouse on the west side of the Cape
  • Bush walk or simply enjoy a 360° view from Shothole Canyon when driving into Exmouth

Overnight: Exmouth

Spend the day in Exmouth and soak up paradise.

Exmouth to Coral Bay
(Approx 150km – 2hrs)
Depart Exmouth early for your drive to Coral Bay. On your way south, stop into Bullara Station for coffee and scones.
Top tips:

  • Bill’s Bay - the main beach is a snorkeller’s paradise with calm, protected waters and hundreds of fish and coral species just metres from the shore
  • Explore further out by glass bottom boat, cruising yacht or kayaking tour
  • Enjoy an afternoon quad bike and snorkel tour, taking you to the harder to reach (and best) snorkelling spots

Overnight: Coral Bay

Coral Bay
Coral Bay is known for its giant manta ray swimming tours, so get out on the water.
Top tips:

  • Any day of the year, try the Manta Ray swim tour, plus meet the friendliest baby reef sharks at Asho’s Gap
  • Join a whale shark tour (from March to June) to swim with the world’s largest fish
  • Bag a big one on a fishing charter tour

Overnight: Coral Bay

Coral Bay to Shark Bay
(Approx 590km – 6.5hrs)

Wake up early and head south along the North West Coastal Highway to Shark Bay.

Dirk Hartog Island
Spend the day (or a little longer if you have time and a booking!) on Dirk Hartog Island.
Top tips:

  • An important historic site, Dirk Hartog Island was the first recorded location of European evidence left on Australian soil
  • The island is home to rare and endangered wildlife and is a major attraction for those seeking an exclusive beach for snorkelling, swimming or kayaking
  • Experience the island and its dramatic cliffs by air or access it by land and barge crossing from Useless Loop, outside of Denham

Overnight: Shark Bay or Dirk Hartog Island

Shark Bay
Spend some time in this stunning World Heritage area.
Top tips:

  • Meet the famous Monkey Mia dolphins, with the first feeding from 7.45am
  • Visit the Aquarium or if you dive, spend the day diving Shark Bay’s best sites
  • Explore Shark Bay’s Discovery Centre learning about the area's history and heritage via soundscapes, film footage, interactive multimedia and objects
  • See the stars and learn about the Indigenous culture of the local Nhanda and Malgana Aboriginal people on an after dinner night tour

Overnight: Denham or Monkey Mia

Shark Bay to Kalbarri
(Approx 375km – 4.5hrs)

Head south to Kalbarri to explore the town on two bodies of water.
Top tips:

  • Explore the magnificent Murchison River on a river cruise or kayaking tour
  • Take in the dramatic sights of Kalbarri’s coastal cliff look outs, and spot humpback whales (July – November)
  • Meet the coloured parrots and other birds of Rainbow Jungle, solve the outdoor maze or check out a movie at the open-air cinema

Wake up early to enjoy some of the action-packed activities on offer such as:

  • Take a pot-pulling tour to catch your own Western Rock Lobster
  • Quad bike morning or afternoon at either Wagoe Beach or Murchison River
  • From mid-2017, traverse the twin Skywalks at the West Loop in the National Park

Overnight: Kalbarri

Kalbarri to Jurien Bay
(Approx 350km – 3.5hrs)
Take the coastal/scenic drive south from Kalbarri and then take the Indian Ocean Drive to Jurien Bay.
