Depot Hill reserve 12kms to the northeast of Mingewnew, an easy five minute drive. Depot Hill is wonderful spot for an abundance of wildflowers, native animals and a picnic on the banks of the river under the gum trees. Whilst in the area, don't forget to visit Coalseam Conservation Park, another consistent everlasting wildflower carpet location!
From August to October as you walk along you will be surrounded by a sea of pink everlastings and then as the terrain changes you will be able to see a mix of flowering shrubs and orchids on mass. In particular snail, donkey, spider, cowslips and purple tassels.
The very camera friendly area offers easy access to a multitude of wildflower species or, for those of you who enjoy a good walk, you can carry on along the bush track to discover the historic WW2 Army Rifle Range. The site was used as a rifle range during the war and has a great walking track that takes you to the remnants of a trench used for training.
Another great picnic spot by the Irwin River which also runs through this reserve on its way to Dongara-Port Denison.
