Dongara to Geraldton
(Approx 65km - 45 minutes)
Wake up early, walk the trail around the head of the Irwin River and then visit the SeaSpray Café in Dongara for a great breakfast. It’s really popular with local residents and offers a Friday night seafood dinner.
Monday or Tuesday: Have lunch at the Central Greenough Café and Visitor Centre, right on the Heritage trail and Yamaji Drive Trail and near to Ellendale Pool – the perfect spot for a picnic. Wednesday - Sunday: Visit the Hampton Arms Inn for a rustic home-style lunch and a browse of their bookshop. The first hotel in the area built in 1863, it was restored 17 years ago.

Arrive in Geraldton and enjoy a pre-dinner drink at the Broady as the sun sets over Champion Bay. Enjoy dinner at:

Geraldton to Carnarvon

Continue north to Carnarvon, a popular holiday spot for sun seekers and food lovers. $104 million worth of fruit and vegetables are grown annually in Carnarvon.
Stop off at the Billabong Homestead with its Red Car Café to fuel up and stretch your legs.
There’s so much to explore in Carnarvon. Try a few of these ideas:
- Visit the Carnarvon Heritage Precinct and One Mile Jetty and stay on for lunch or coffee at Valentina’s One Mile Jetty Cafe
- Explore and sample the abundant fresh produce along the Gascoyne Food Trail – pick up a chocolate-coated frozen banana or mango smoothie at Bumbaks.
- May to October, every Saturday morning, the Growers’ Markets are run by the growers themselves in front of the Carnarvon Visitor Centre
- Cook your own dinner and pick up a selection of seafood from Pickles Point Seafood and Boatyard or Norwest Seafood.
For a real outback dinner, stay at Wooramel River Retreat located between Carnarvon and Shark Bay. On Wednesday nights, the team offer an Australian camp oven dinner or you can enjoy a Homestead Hamper, perfect for a picnic dinner.
Overnight: Carnarvon and surrounds
Carnarvon to Kalbarri
(445km – 4.5hrs)
Enjoy a great coffee and breakfast at the Port Hotel before setting off to Kalbarri. Arriving in Kalbarri, enjoy a light lunch at Angie's cafe.

Kalbarri to Perth
(570km – 6hrs)
Wake up early for a full breakfast at the Gorges Cafe, our favourite place for breakfast and lunch!
If you’re just looking for coffee, check out Bean Drifting, a pop-up coffee van near surfing beach, Jacques Point.
Monday – Thursday: Try Oakabella Homestead, heritage tourism at its finest. Stay for lunch or some light refreshments, including their famous scones and Devonshire tea, plus don’t forget to check out the mini-museum.
Friday – Sunday: As you travel through Northampton, turn off to Nanson where the Burnt Barrel Outback BrewBQ specialises in low and slow smoked BBQ coupled with beer which is brewed onsite.
On your way home, stop in at Jurien Bay to experience the beachfront and tasty treats from the Jurien Jetty Café. During Wildflower season (July - September) why not stop in Lesueur National Park, and if you didn’t make it on the way up from Perth – don’t forget a visit to the Pinnacles!
