The Irra Wangga Language Centre is housed within Geraldton’s Bundiyarra Cultural Precinct.

It works to preserve, share and promote the languages of the region’s Aboriginal people.

Here you can see and purchase books that recount Indigenous stories in language, with English translations. Some books come complete with an audio pen which enables you to hear the stories in the words of the elders who spoke them.

Irra Wangga works with schools, Aboriginal organisations, other local community organisations and members of the wider community, to assist in the teaching and promotion of Aboriginal languages.

Irra Wangga runs weekly Wajarri language classes, open to anyone in the community.

Be sure to set aside time to also visit the Aboriginal Yama(t)ji War Memorial at Bundiyarra and pack a picnic lunch to enjoy on the grounds.
