This week, the Ningaloo World Heritage Area received significant international recognition, with both Tripadvisor and Wotif announcing destination awards.
Tripadvisor has announced the winners of their annual Travellers' Choice Best of the Best Awards, with particular attention given to Australia when it comes to naming the world's best beaches. Turquoise Bay was rated the sixth best beach in the world, and second best in the South Pacific. Located 45 minutes' drive from Exmouth in the Cape Range National Park, and edging the iconic Ningaloo Reef, the bay is widely regarded as one of the most pristine in the country. It's a popular spot for snorkelling, particularly due to its location on the world's largest fringing reef, and is densely population by tropical fish, manta rays, humpback whales and turtles. Tripadvisor's awards are based on "all the reviews, ratings, and saves that travellers share from across the globe".
Wotif.com's 2021 Aussie Town of the Year Awards rated Exmouth the 8th best town in Australia, the only Western Australian town to make the list. Exmouth was recognised for its diving experiences on Ningaloo Reef and breathtaking canyons and wildflowers at Cape Range National Park. Wotif's awards are based on factors like "accommodation quality, affordability and traveller satisfaction" and towns which "made an effort to meet the changing needs of travellers over the last year by offering increased flexibility, good-value deals and appealing activities and attractions".
