Wildflowers and Nature

Scenic drives through fields of springtime wildflowers and picturesque farmland makes Chapman Valley a popular destination for a self drive adventure. Chapman Valley is a prime spot for wildflower fans, with bright pink, blue and white everlastings colouring the landscape during the season. The area between Nanson and Yuna is where you'll find some of the best wildflower shows.

The Moresby Range was formed some 50 million years ago, now an ancient (exposed) seabed for fossil deposits which can be found in various places in the Range. View the ancient landscape from Mills Lookout and Wokatherra Hill. Explore wildflowers near Naraling Hall, Old Nolba Stock Route and Wandana Reserve. See an abundance of wildflower species come to life during the season including Dampiera, Grevillea, Hibbertia and Melalueca.

Walk or mountain bike your way along the Chapman River Nature Trail at Nanson which provides a habitat for the endangered Ringtail Possum and Carnaby Black Cockatoo. Along the path, you will see nesting boxes for birds, as well as trail markers and interpretive signage. Chapman River Friends is a group of volunteers who help in the rehabilitation and promote the Chapman River Regional Park. They offer a guided walk each weekend to view the wildflowers, wildlife and provide general and specific information about the park. Check their Facebook page for departure times and point. They also have a great app for flower identification.
