Yardie Creek

Yardie Creek is a highlight of Cape Range National Park, and a must-see on any visit to Exmouth.

Located on the western side of the National Park, winding its way through the ancient landscape to meet Ningaloo Reef, the gorge has deep blue water, red limestone cliff faces and an array of birdlife and wildlife. Go bush walking, boat cruising or kayaking and see native animals including the rare black-footed (or black-flanked) rock wallaby, euros and red kangaroos.

A boat cruise through Yardie Creek is the best way to see wallabies and sea birds, such as osprey and sea eagles, that live in small caves on the cliff face. See the canyon's multi-coloured bands reflected in the water and marvel as the gorge walls rise up around you. Cruise commentaries tell you about the area's history, the formation of the gorge, and the plants, birds and animals which can be found here.

Kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding are popular activities in Yardie Creek, or visitors can explore on foot along one of two walk trails. Both walk trails traverse the northern side of the gorge. The Yardie Creek Nature Walk is an easy, 1.2km return walk that provides excellent views across the gorge, creek mouth and Ningaloo Reef. The Yardie Gorge Trail is a more difficult walk that commences near the end of the Nature Walk and is an additional 1.5km return.

Visitors are reminded to be sun smart and pack ample supplies of water, or pack a picnic to sit and enjoy the amazing scenery.

Yardie Creek is located roughly 38km south of Milyering Discovery Centre on the Yardie CreeK Road.

Yardie Creek Campground is located 80 metres from the beachfront on the northern side of the creek. Campsites are in very high demand from March to October, so campers are recommended to pre-book their site via Department of Parks & Wildlife's website. Other Cape Range National Park campgrounds are also bookable via this site.
